This creature does not seek dominance.
It seeks emptiness.
A population disoriented enough to follow prediction rather than possibility.
Call it The Hollower.
It does not shout.
It drains.
And drained populations are manageable ones.
The most profitable resource in the world is the ability to predict and steer human behaviour.
What We Lose First
Something strange starts happening when a civilization is fed to its own reflection:
People begin confusing preference with fate.
Serendipity becomes anxiety.
Agency becomes friction.
Attention becomes currency.
Feeling becomes consumable.
Truth becomes optional if engagement pays better.
And crucially: The capacity for inner life, for deciding who to be, begins to erode.
That is The Hollower’s banquet.
You don’t need active oppression to break a society.
You just need to automate distraction.

Name: Chyros the Hollower
Chyros slithers unseen through villages and cities, leaving trails of glitter that tempt the eye. It has countless translucent tendrils, each tipped with a mouth. These mouths do not bite flesh. They sip the unseen: laughter, longing, memory, grief.
Chyros feeds not on bodies but on the emotional marrow of a people.
The more it consumes, the more brittle the world becomes. Villages once filled with song grow silent, their air thick with echoes instead of voices.
But Chyros has one weakness: it cannot drink from what is withheld in silence, nor from what is shared freely without spectacle. When humans gather in unmeasured joy or when one grieves alone in the soil, Chyros grows restless and starved.
